Mr. Bassam Mahfouz

Labour Councillor for Northolt West End.
Ealing Cabinet Member for Finance & Leisure

Born in Lebanon, Bassam has lived in London from a young age. He was elected a councilor at the age of 24, in the London borough of Ealing (west London), which has a population of over 330,000. He is currently Deputy Leader of the council, as well as the Cabinet member for Finance and Leisure.
During his time as Cabinet member for the environment and transport, Bassam increased recycling in Ealing to the second best in the capital, where now over 50% of the waste collected is recycled. As Chair of the West London Waste Authority he also reduced the rubbish sent to landfill from this part of the UK capital to zero.
For the past 7 years, Bassam has also been on London’s Waste And Recycling Board (LWARB), where is the Circular Economy Champion for the UK capital. LWARB have secured European funding to offer an accelerator programme for SMEs to become more circular or launch circular economy solutions as well as leading exciting work with larger corporates and across world cities in this area of innovation.
LWARB wish to see London as the leading light on the Circular Economy and have been working with the Mayor of London to set a vision to make it the greenest global city, becoming a zero carbon city by 2050. LWARB have picked up three awards in the last few weeks for its campaigns to reduce fashion waste and improve recycling in London.
