Al khaliji to provide exclusive support for Corporate Social Responsibility conference

Al Khalij Commercial Bank (Al khaliji) QSC announced that it will proudly sponsor the "3rd International Conference on Corporate Social Responsibility" that will be held in Doha for two days on October the 3rd, 2011.

September 29, 2011

The conference, held under the patronage of Sheikh Jassim bin Abdul Aziz bin Jassim Al-Thani, the Minster of Business and Trade, is the latest in the series of corporate social responsibility (CSR) conferences initiated by the state of Qatar in 2008. Al khaliji will support the event as the exclusive Platinum Sponsor.

"We consider that the welfare of individuals and the community is crucial for the long-term sustainability of society and its various institutions," explains Mr. Robin McCall, Group Chief Executive Officer. "The conference is completely in line our CSR philosophy and we are proud and honored to be supporting this event."

The conference is co-hosted by the United Nations Global Impact (UNGI) forum, a platform for businesses to align in areas of human rights, labor, anti-corruption, and environmental issues. Local, regional, and international participants will exchange thoughts and strategies on aligning their CSR activities with UNGI common principles, and share their experiences in their own countries. The World Bank, International Public Relations Association, and numerous American universities will also be participating.

"Our support of the conference is testament to our commitment to the community," explains Ms. Abeer Al Kalla, Head of Public Relations & Communications: "At al khaliji, we believe that our obligations to the community extend beyond financial commitments; we recognize that we have to create a balance between our business objectives and social and environmental development. In the end, CSR is a cause worth investing in."

On the sidelines of the conference, a United Nations Global Impact representative will give a brief workshop to Al khaliji employees at the bank's headquarters. The day will include a presentation on CSR and roundtable discussions on best practices.

"We hope that UNGI workshop for the bank employees, as well as the conference in October, will streamline our CSR activities," concluded Ms. Al Kalla. "After all, the better we run our CSR programs, the greater the impact will be on the beneficiaries."

Al khaliji corporate social responsibility programs are ongoing, and go beyond sponsorships.
